DESCRIPTION: France, Comtoise clock, 8 day, time and strike with alarm, weight driven movement with verge escapement, thread suspension with rear-hanging pendulum in a iron post and plate frame, brass chapter ring with engraved Roman numerals, alarm dial with Arabic numerals, single brass hand, applied brass spandrels and pivoted winding arbor shutters, topped by flat pierced brass fronton with trademark.
CONDITION: Tarnish and polishing residue on brass chapter ring. Rust spots on iron plates, posts and arbors. Turned escape wheel arbor support. Small stepped feet on movement uprights. Movement strikes the hour with one hammer and the half hour with another. A third hammer is for the alarm. Robust four-bladed fly. Bell decorated with turned stripes. The bell has two small holes which are the result of a casting flaw. Flat brass fronton has a crowned "R" in the center. Suspension shroud is 4.5 inches tall. Rear panel of clock has contoured section to provide clearance for the pendulum. No weights or pendulum come with this clock.
